Mental Health Support

During the month of May, I’ll be focusing on Mental Health Awareness. Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about this subject and it’s about time!! For so long I’ve felt like this conversation has been marginalized and hidden for some reason. However, taking care of our mental health is as important as caring for any other aspect of our health including our physical, spiritual, and emotional health. This conversation should no longer be a subject of discomfort. It needs to remain in the forefront of our minds because people experience mental health concerns every day and in many ways, and we need to be aware of and learn how to address them.

I’ve discovered that recovery is possible and many people can overcome the mental health challenges they face. I want to encourage people to not struggle alone, but to reach out for the help they need. I understand that it’s not always comfortable having to deal with certain issues that may arise in our lives. Heck, we might not even know how to deal with them but it’s good to know that in today’s world, there’s a lot of help and different resources for us to utilize.

Sometimes it even helps when we have someone to talk to or when we can participate in a support group. I recently discovered a website that’s offering free group support sessions. We all understand that mental health is more important than ever right now after the two years that we’ve just lived through, and this is one of the reasons that the sessions are being offered for free at this time. According to the site, there are licensed therapists and mental health professionals that we can learn effective tools and strategies from, as it relates to common concerns. You’ll even have the option of being completely anonymous by using an alias or turning off your camera, and you’ll be with others who have concerns and experiences similar to yours. Below is the link to that website. Please take advantage of this resource while there's no cost to you currently. I’ve also signed up to participate in one of the sessions this month.

Great information! Thank you Ro.
Ro,
Thank you for posting. I just finished reading an article about a young lady who mentioned checking on your "strong" friends. Unfortunately, it was too late for her, but for those who are reading your message, it helps to really check on your family and friends. Not just a text, but a visit, phone or video chat to actually see them. Here is the article: https://news.yahoo.com/southern-university-cheerleader-dies-suicide-182716469.html
